Getting real in 2021

Jennifer at Plantation

February 2021

The COVID-19 shut down taught Rick Mercer that, no matter how much time he had, he was never going to clean his basement. I guess this webpage has been my basement.

If you are looking for me down at the Quidi Vidi Village Plantation, I’m not there either–despite the photo here. I had a lovely year-long residency at the Plant from October 2019 to December 2020. (I guess that’s actually eighteen months.) If you are interested in a craft residency in Newfoundland, check it out. The Craft Council of Newfoundland & Labrador are great to work with and I was happy to be there with my Pop-up Propaganda Press. But, for now, Morgan’s Printing/Art has moved back into my basement.

In January-February 2021, the Craft Council NL Gallery hosted, “PreCambrian Braille”. This show was the conclusion of my year-long collaboration with the poet Don McKay. Thanks to Bruno and the other savvy people at the CCNL, these letterpress poems and our videos can be seen at the CCNL Gallery website: https://www.craftcouncilnl.ca/events/pre-cambrian-braille

This year I’m helping with the Tuesday drawing sessions here at the St. John’s Arts & Culture Centre, on Allendale Road. Called “The Group of 77” these artists meet on Tuesday mornings to draw dressed models, and on Thursdays for life drawing. Only, because of COVID-19’s B.117 variant, we aren’t meeting. You can check for updates on our FaceBook group page “The Group of 77”.

Maybe you are interested the S.S. Caribou. I am assisting the NL ShipWreck Society, and the Port Aux Basques Railway Museum, on their project to build a Virtual Museum site for the S.S. Caribou. The historians at the ShipWreck Society have already done this about the Bell Island submarine attacks. If you had relatives on that ferry, I am slowly updating my research on my website and welcome any contributions at my email–which is posted at the bottom of this page. Click here for the S.S. Caribou Manifest

I have another writing project, and have started another art collaboration that I’m very excited about. But, in summation, I’m afraid I won’t be spending much time on this webpage in 2021. Just too many tongs in the fire.

Jennifer, did you attend Andrews University around 1986. I believe you and I took a class with Hans LA Randell that year. If I have the right person we also had a classmate, Darrel Cyphers. Darrel called me about a year ago and we reconnected. Let me know if I have the correct Jennifer Morgan. I remember that you came from Newfoundland.
